I will start with backing up. If you have important things on your computer and your not backing them up then you deserve whats going to happen.
Whats going to happen?
Dah... Your going to lose EVERYTHING!
Sermons from the past 10 years, Your videos, Docs, music and all your favorite porn pics will be lost or it will cost you big $$ to recover.
This can be solved in several simple ways...
1. Burning your data to DVD's or CD's
2. Moving data to another drive.
3. Moving data to online source.
If you don't have a whole lot of data burning it off to a disk is your best bet. If you do have alot of data ( greater than 8gb) then you will want to consider a back up drive or online.
Lets discuse option 2. This is the least expensive way to back up data and most likely the easiest. What do I consider to be another drive?
Flash drives, USB hard drives, Raid and NAS box are all different types of drives. Flash drives are good for smaller amounts but not realistic for more than 16gb of data. Flash drives also have a tendacy to just die. External drives or USB drives are just drves in a external enclosure and are about the cheapest back up solution out there. (>1tb for < $100.00)
I don't see any reason not to use this method other than lazyness. NAS drives are great if you have a network and would like to back up several drives. So moving on....
Online backups are nice for those who want to back up specific groups of data and it gets your data out of the house. My advise is to shop around and to know how much data you are sending out.
Now you know whats out there for backing up data. So now you just need to back up your data. Don't be a dumbass back up your data.
