Why is my system running so slow?
There are a thousand reasons why your computer could be running slow. Lets start buy asking a few questions to point us in the right direction.
How old is your PC?
What Operating System are you running?
What software do you have installed?
I ask this question first because many factors revolve around this question.
This will give me an idea of your systems abilities.(RAM, CPU, Hard Drive)
If you are running 512mb RAM with windows XP and less than 2GHz CPU, then your not even meeting the requirements for most antivirus programs to run. If this sounds like your system, Its time to buy new. The parts you would buy to upgrade this system are 3-4 generations behind and all your doing is putting a band aid on a gaping money hole. So, what are the minimal specs needed for a system to be not terribly slow. P4 2.4 GHz, 1GB RAM and running XP or Pentium D 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM and Vista / Win7. If you are running Vista you need to upgrade to Windows 7. Microsoft uses us as ginnepigs to market test O/Ss before they release completed software packages. I feel 95, Win Me, Vista all were test O/Ss and we were the testers. (at our expense) Currently Win 7 is a complete product and life is somewhat good for us. We sort of allready talked O/Ss but you should know that at this current time you should be running XP or Win 7. If you are running Win Me, 98, 95 or Windows 3.11 you need to leave this web site immeadiatly,
YOU HAVE NOTHING TO GAIN FROM HERE.
Crawl back under your rock and die. Moving on.....
The last question is what software are you running?
I ask this question because I have had some peeps come in and they have 10 utility programs running in the background or 5 updates at start up. This will kill the performance of your system in no time. Are you running more than 1 antivirus, spyware detector and or registry cleaner. Most peeps don't need a registry cleaner. Any software that claims to boost your memory, performance or internet speed is usally worthless and causes more problems than helping. Have you noticed a trend here yet? I use the KISS rule for software and hardware.
Time to review what we talked about. Now I ask you...
Do you have a system that meets your software requirements?
Are you running to many junk utilties or progams in the back ground?
Most of time I find the customer knows the answer to these questions.
I will normally tell you to buy a new system every 3 years. Most peeps don't realize that a new generation of hardware is released every 9-12 months
